Chilly Autumn Day

Chilly Autumn Day

A chilly but beautiful day at Abbot Lake, on the Blue Ridge Parkway, at the Peaks of Otter…

Walk the trail around the lake
and through the trees of color
Breathe the fresh chill of air
and say goodbye to summer

A.T. at Thunder Ridge

A.T. at Thunder Ridge

On the Appalachian Trail where it passes over Thunder Ridge; accessible from the Blue Ridge Parkway… When you see a painted white mark, like the one on the tree to the right and you are in the Blue Ridge Mountains, you know that you are on the A. T.

Lilies on the River Bank

Lilies on the River Bank

Our native daylilies grow profusely along creeks, rivers, and tree lines. This is on the James River and the background is the reflection of the sky…

Ode to Barnes and Noble

I pass through your doors and you
greet me with ageless scent of time.
Time recorded and bound within the
confines of, front and back.

My path draws me through your corridors.
I am enthralled, enriched by your wares.
Seconds, minutes, hours pass,
as I graze upon your offerings.

Another familiar aroma steals my attention.
I move with deliberation in bearing of its origin.
Ah, a cylinder of liquid, of heavenly rejuvenation.
I inhale a few hundred lexis, imbibe my
potable, and take my leave…reluctantly!

In Its Day…

In Its Day…

The remains of an old (I’m guessing 1940’s) pickup truck, found at the bottom of an embankment on a back road in Amherst County, Virginia. The lighting is indirect headlights and moonlight…this is an HDR…

Tucked-in

Tucked-in

To me this old barn is a classic beauty. Tucked in among the trees, shrubs, and hills I can’t help but think about the history of this little beauty and all of the lives that are enter-twined with its existence. View it large to see the temperature at the time this image was taken, (January 2007) as well as the wonderful character this barn possesses.
