Train Hits Tractor Trailer

Around 9:00 this morning, June 28, 2008, an eastbound CSX coal train collided with a tractor-trailer that was pulling out of Georgia Pacific Paper mill in Big Island; Amherst County, Virginia…U.S. rout 501. The truck, with its lone occupant was pushed proximally two hundred yards on the tracks before the train came to a complete stop.

No one on the train was injured and the driver of the truck sustained, what appeared to be, minor head injuries. Members of the Big Island rescue squad who happened by near the time of the accident immediately saw to the truck drivers needs until the ambulance arrived shortly after.
