Mushroom (Hygrocybe miniata)

Mushroom (Hygrocybe miniata)

Saprobic in hardwood forests and mixed woods; on soil or in moss; sometimes on rotting logs; growing gregariously; summer through winter; widely distributed in North America.

I wanted to let those of you who may be interested know that last week I was asked by the Photo Editor, of Conservation Projects with National Geographic Maps to contribute to an online encyclopedia project (LandScope) which is a collaboration between NatureServe and the National Geographic Society. The first phase of the project will be launched in October, 2007.

I am excited and very appreciative to have been asked to participate in this project!

Thirty Years Later

Thirty Years Later

Last Wednesday, 08-29-2007, over thirty years since I last saw them, I met with two old friends at the Peaks of Otter on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia.

When we were “young” we played music, camped, took pictures, and just hung out together.

Wednesday, we sat in the shade of a very large and old tree and talked of old times, what’s happened in our lives over the past thirty years, and decided that we will meet at least every other month, life permitting, from now on.

It was amazing to see these guys again after so long and there is no one on earth I would rather see from my past; they were a very inspirational and important part of my life back then, and I am thrilled to be reunited with these dear friends!
